James A. Ainsworth, 87, of DeRuyter, passed away Wednesday,
February 27, 2008, at his home. He was born in Truxton and
had been self employed in the salvage business all his life.
He was a WW II Army veteran, having received the Purple Heart
for wounds received in Italy. Jim was a memberof Woodford
Burdick Post 894 American Legion in DeRuyter. He was also
a member of the DAV and the Purple Heart Association. Surviving:
daughters Amelia (Earl) Priest of Fabius, Susan (Vernard)
McCall of Zephyrhills, FL, and Janette (Thomas) Knapp of DeRuyter;
son James (Rita) of Fabius; stepdaughters Anna Wagner of Texas,
Jeannette Compton of Hoer and Susan Losaw of Groton; stepsons
Rodney Losaw of Lincklaen, Vincent Losaw of Scott and Dale
Losaw of Cortland; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren,

William Miller Allen, 85, beloved husband, father
and grandfather, of Delphi Falls (2006 Cardner Road, New Woodstock,
NY 13122), died April 18, 2007 at the home of his daughter,
Becky Rizzi, in Rutland, Vermont. He was born in Syracuse
on December 31, 1921, and was a lifelong resident of the area.
He graduated from Nottingham High School in 1939 and from
Syracuse University School of Engineering in 1943. He served
as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. While
stationed in Santa Maria, California, he met his wife, Doreen
Lukeman, on May 6, 1945, and they were married on May 6, 1947.
Mr. Allen retired from G.E. in 1984. He was an Eagle Scout,
a member of SAE fraternity and a member of Theta Tau Engineering
Society. He was a member of the Fayetteville United Methodist
Church. For the past 13 years he enjoyed volunteering at Community
Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Doreen; daughter, Lindy,
and son-in law, Richard McMahon, of North Andover, MA; son,
William Allen Jr. of New Woodstock, NY; daughter, Becky, and
son-in-law, Joseph Rizzi, of Rutland, VT; son, Steve Allen
of Lafayette, LA; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jonathan, Lori and
Alison McMahon and Lauren Rizzi, and Peter Walton, AFS exchange
student from Perth, Australia (1967-1968). Calling hours are

Roger David Amidon Sr. of Fabius, NY, passed away February
1, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in South
Onondaga on May 11, 1933, to William and Genevieve Amidon.
Roger served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1955 as an MP officer
during the Korean War. He retired in 1993 after 30 years as
a firefighter with the Syracuse Fire Department. Roger had
been a member of the Fabius community for the last 25 years.
He is survived by his sons, Billy, Roger, Ronald and Eric;
his sisters, Judy Kieffer, Justine Gowing and Joyce Howlett;
sevn grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces
and nephews. Services will be private. Calling hours will

Paul Robert Antil, 68, of Cicero, passed away July
15, 2007 in St. Joseph's Hospital. Paul was born January 14,
1939 in Cortland, the son of the late Michael and Mary Homan
Antil. Paul was a Sergeant with the Onondaga County Sheriff's
Department where he had been employed for over 30 years. He
had previously been employed with The Post-Standard. Paul
is survived by his wife, Louanne Antil of Cicero; his son,
Andrew (Marie) Antil of East Syracuse; his daughter, Kimberly
Hayes of New Hampshire; his brothers, Gerald Antil of Texas,
James (Lonna) Antil of Indiana, Frederick (Anne) Antil of
Ithaca; his sister, Mary (Don) Leaderman of Virginia; his
grandchildren, Emily Antil and Katherine Hayes; several nieces
and nephews. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased
by his sister, Dorothy Bredeson; his brothers, Michael and

Donald C. "Chris" Atkinson, 57, of 220 Brinkerhoff
St, Chittenango, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at his home.
Born in Syracuse, Chris was a life resident of Chittenango.
He was an ironworer with Local #60 for 21 years, retiring
in 1990 due to disability. He was aVietnam veteran, serving
in the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his mother, Grace Atkinson
of Oneida; two daughters and one son-in-law, Erin and Randy
Rode Jr., and Megan Atkinson, all of Chittenango; his companion
of 19 years, Theresa Whiteley, and her children, Curtiss Ling
of New Jersey and Randee Ling of Oneida; four brothers: Mark
of Fabius, Stephen of Chittenango, Dennis of Oneida and Aaron
of Canastota; one sister, Donna Cirbus of DeRuyter; three
grandchildren: Kaleb Rode, and Cory and Connor Fredericks;
and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be
1 p.m. Tuesday at G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, Chittenango. Burial

Helen C. Bays, lifelong resident of Pompey, died Sunday,
March 18, 2007, at her home, she was 91. Helen was a 1934
graduate of the Pompey Academy. She was active with the Fabius-Pompey
Senior Citizens. Helen was a faithful member of the Pompey
Community Church where she held numerous positions. Her life
exemplified Christ teachings through her love and devotion
to family and everyone she came in contact with. She was predeceased
by her husband, Ralph in 1992; and her son, Dale in 1994.
Surviving are her daughter, Donna B. Palladino (John) of Pompey;
her sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Bays, Jeannette Bays, Beverly
Zackow, Bonnie Carley and Ola Mae Haskins; five grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held
at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Pompey Community Church. Friends

William H. Bell, 58, died Friday, December 17, 2004,
at his home in Quechee, VT. Born October 26, 1946, in Allentown,
PA, a son of H. William and Betty Bell, he graduated from
Fayetteville-Manlius High School and from Syracuse University.
He later received his master's degree in computer science
from Bemidji State University in Bemidji, MN. He has lived
in Vermont for several years and has worked as a computer
designer and drafter at Vermont Castings in Bethel, VT. He
loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and also
was an accomplished woodcarver, having won awards for waterfowl
carvings. He is survived by his son, Kevin H. Bell of Brooklyn,
NY; his father, H. William Bell of Las Vegas, NV; his mother,
Betty Bell Hutchinson of Deerfield Beach, FL; two sisters,
Cynthia Andrews of Fabius, NY, and Keryn Piersa of West Palm
Beach, FL; a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by a brother,
Kristopher Lee Bell. Private services were held at the convenience
of the family.
Charlotte C. Bowen, 77, of Ocala, FL, died November
25, 2004 at Munroe Regional Medical Center. Born in Utica,
NY, came to Syracuse in 1984. She was a homemaker. She was
a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, was very active
with Meals on Wheels, Marion County Sr. Services volunteer,
Boy Scouts, a counselor for Methodist youth, and loved butterflies,
and graduated from Fabius Central School in Fabius, New York.
Survived by her husband, Hammett L. Bowen, Ocala, FL; sons,
Robert M. Comstock, of Hilton, NY, Gary R. Comstock, of Bridgewater,
NY, James D. Comstock, Roswell, GA; daughter, Karen Comstock,
Ithaca, NY; stepson, Keith O. Bowen, Sr., Ocala, FL; brothers,
Frank Butler, of Stokes, NC, Edgar Butler, of Cazenovia, NY;
sisters, Bertha Ossant, of Sheds, NY, Carol Butler, Winter
Haven, FL; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by
a brother, Kenneth Cramer and a sister, Eileen Ludwig. Donations

Donald C. Brate, 83, of Baldwinsville, died Wednesday,
December 28, 2005, at Birchwood Health Care Center. Born in
Albany, he worked for General Electric in Syracuse as an electrical
engineer for over 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member
of First Presbyterian Church of Baldwinsville. He was a member
of RAGS Amateur Ham Radio Club and Lock 24 Artists. He was
predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth, and his second wife,
Lillian. Surviving: a daughter, Marie Cluley of Willamstown;
five sons: Ralph Brate of Fabius, Leonard Cluley of Ohio,
Charles Brate of Brewerton, and Albert and Richard Horvath,
both of Indiana; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Karl C. Burdick, 62, of 6862 West Keeney Rd., Cuyler,
NY, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at the
VA Hospital, Buffalo. Karl was a native of Syracuse and a
graduate of both Fabius High School and Tompkins Community
College. Surviving are his wife, Pamela Woodruff Burdick of
Cuyler; a son, Robert Burdick of Auburn; a daughter, Jean
Burdick of Syracuse; one sister, Emma Male of Syracuse; one
grandson, Tristan Burdick; and one granddaughter, Bryttnaye
Burdick. His hobbies included hotrod cars and motorcycles,
anything outdoors, hunting (deer and small game), camping/mountain
man rendezvous (primitive camping based around the year 1840),
guns, sharp shooting (pistols, rifles, black powder), and
woodworking (small projects, tables, shelves); and he loved
old movies (westerns, gangster movies). Memorial calling hours

held Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at 1 p.m., with private interment
at the convenience of the family.
Gloria (Sears) Buza, 82, of Syracuse, passed away
on Monday, September 10, 2007, in Crouse Hospital. She was
born in Syracuse where she resided for many years. She worked
as an Accountant with Traveler's Ins. for several years before
retiring. Gloria was a loving and dedicated wife and mother
who loved gardening and the outdoors. Her hobbies were canning,
crocheting, knitting and antique collecting. She was predeceased
by her husband of 59 years, Robert J. Buza in 2005. She is
survived by her daughter, Christine Fanto of Liverpool; two
sons, Robert (Diana) Buza of Fabius and Richard (Michelle)
Buza of Cicero; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Donald F. Campbell Sr. "Hay Shaker," 69,
of LaFayette, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at St. Joseph's
Hospital. He was a truck driver, owner and operator, retiring
from Wal-Mart in 2003. He is survived by his wife, Carol Joy
Campbell; two sons, Donald Jr. and Michael; a daughter, Audrey;
two brothers, Ronald and Joseph; three sisters: Shirley Haney,
Katie Mason and Rita; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Kenneth C. Chrysler, 84, of Pompey, NY, passed away
February 26, 2008 at Crouse Hospital with family by his side.
Kenneth was born on August 15, 1923, raised and lived his
entire life in Pompey. Kenneth and his wife, Glennis owned
and op-erated a dairy farm on #4 West Road for over 50 years.
Kenneth and Glennis also operated a trash removal business
in Pompey for over 50 years. Kenneth was lovingly known to
his great-grandchildren as "Grandpa Barn". Kenneth
was predeceased by his parents, Franklin and Ada Chrysler;
brothers, Lowell, George and Donald Chrysler. Kenneth was
also predeceased by his daughter, Beverly and the love of
his life, his wife of 62 years, Glennis Ella in September
of 2006. Kenneth is survived by a brother, Pearl; a son, Franklin
(Kristen) Chrysler; a daughter, Nancy Redmond; grandchildren,
Franklin Redmond, Betsy Harris, Amy (Kevin) Murphy, Kenneth
R. Chrysler, Benjamin (Jessica) Chrysler, Timothy Chrysler,
Thomas R. (Norah) Windhausen, Timothy Windhausen; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Chester Ciesielski, 76, of Manlius, passed away February
20, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital Sunday with his family
by his side. A native of Jamica, NY, he was a communicant
of St. Ann's Church, Manlius. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.
Survivors: his wife of 46 years, the former Patricia Walsh;
a son, Martin Ciesielski of Manlius; two daughters, Stacey
(Larry) Radney of Baldwinsville and Barbara (Gregory) Tuttle
of Fabius; and five grandchildren, James Radney, Melissa,

Wayne A. Clapp, 57, of Pompey, died Thursday, September
1, 2005, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Born in
Syracuse, he was a life resident of the Pompey area. Wayne
was a graduate of Fabius-Pompey High School and SUNY Buffalo.
Wayne was a specifi-cation writer for Onondaga County's Division
of Purchasing for the past 20 years. An avid outdoorsman,
he was a member of and treasurer for the Pompey Rod and Gun
Club, Inc. Surviving are his brother, Philip L., and wife
Norma W. of Jamesville; his niece, Karen N. (Kevin) Closser
of Williamson; and his nephew, Jeffrey P. (Linda) Clapp of

Viola Davis, 87, of Clarence Dr., North Syracuse,
died Saturday, February 11, 2006 at home. Born in Fabius,
NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lavern (Stroup)
Locke. She was a secretary, employed by Chappell's Department
Store for over 16 years. Viola was predeceased by her husband,
James, in 1984. Survived by one daughter, Linda Bartholomew
of Cicero; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Edward P. Downing, 82, of 1704 Clark Hollow Rd., LaFayette,
died November 8, 2004, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse. Born
the son of Elton and Grace Lockwood Downing in February 1922,
he graduated LaFayette Central High School in 1943, worked
on the family farm, in later years was a truck mechanic for
Onondaga County Highway Garage of Jamesville and retired in
1984. Mr. Downing had a maple syrup business at the farm,
which was a very sophisticated operation. His syrup was used
all over the world. He lived his whole life on the family
farm. Survived by his wife, Carol Bragg Brossoie; a son, Robert
Brossoie, and his wife Susan of Raleigh, NC; a brother, David
of California; a sister, Sally Avery of Florida; a grandson,
Paul Brossoie, and his wife Ashley; a granddaughter, Danielle
Brossoie; and a grandson, David Brossoie, all of Raleigh,
NC. Memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pompey

Eleanor F. O'Brien Dwyer, 85, of Manlius, died peacefully
Wednesday, August 16, 2006, after a brief illness. A native
of Portland, Maine, she has lived in the Syracuse area since
1944. Mrs. Dwyer graduated from Deering High School and Westbrook
Junior Collegein Portland Maine, majoring in journalism. She
was employed by the Gannett Publishing Company, was a member
of the Red Cross Nurses Aide Corps, and the publicity chairman
for the U.S.O.in Portland. Eleanor moved to Syracuse and retired
as a secretary for the Graduate School at Syracuse University.
Eleanor was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Surviving are a daughter,
Eileen Oot of Manlius; a son and daughter- in-law Thomas and
Anne Dwyer of Hickory, NC; a son and daughter-in-law Mark
and Sandra Dwyer of Baldwinsville, NY; a son Michael Dwyer
of New York, NY; six granddaughters; one grandson and several
nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Monday
at Holy Cross Church, DeWitt. Burial will be in St. Mary's

Thomas J. Field, 59, of Cicero, died at his home
February 17, 2008. He was formerly employed by Solvay Process
and Syracuse University. He was predeceased by his father,
Robert, in 1995. Survived by his mother, Beryl Field of Fabius;
five brothers, Richard (Beatrice) of NJ, David (Leslie) of
Fabius, James (Sharon) of Florida, Jeffrey of Arizona and
Brian (Tonyia) of N. Carolina; four sisters, JoAnne (Peter)
Misco of Jamesville, Patricia (Gerald) Murphy of Camillus,
Mary Field of NJ and Nancy Gilson of Canastota; many nieces,

Sarah M. Fox, 68, of Jordan, passed away April 26,

Patricia Pucino Frerk, 59, of Syracuse, passed away
June 8, 2005 at Crouse Hospital after a long illness. Patty
was born in Syracuse and a graduate of Onondaga Valley Academy.
She was a former employee of the NY Telephone Co. and retired
from Niagara Mohawk. Survivors: her brother, Peter and his
wife Ruth Pucino of Syracuse. Calling hours Friday 4 to 7

Maureen Yorker Geisser, of Jamesville, died Wednesday,
September 26, 2007 at her home. She was born in Windsor, Connecticut,
the daughter of the late Wilbur and Mary Yorker. She was employed
with ARCADIS BBL in DeWitt and was a parishioner of Holy Cross
Church. Maureen will be remembered as a very kind, caring
and loving person who touched and enhanced many people's lives.
She was predeceased by a brother, Michael Yorker, and by a
sister, Cheryl Yorker Fitzgerald. Survivors: her beloved husband,
Don; a stepson, Bob Geisser; her loving dog, Turner; a brother,
William (Linda) Yorker of Canton, CT; her favorite sister,
Susan (Jerry) LaManna of Fabius; nephews, Jacob and Eric LaManna,

Julius G. Gigon, 70, of 6828 Route 80, Tully, passed
away Thursday, June 2, 2005, in Strong Memorial Hospital,
Rochester. Born in Syracuse, he resided in the Tully area
over 20 years. He worked at Sealtest Ice Cream Co. for 21
years, was the owner of Southern Hills Window Co., and for
the past 10 years was employed by Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Julius
was a member of the Fabius Historical Society, Cortland Antiques
Car Club, Oldsmobile Club of America, Finger Lakes 500 Car
Club and River Valley Toy Club. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte
"Cheri" Gigon; three daughters: Ann (Dan) Doyle
of Tully, Terri (Peter) Tulawiecki of Syracuse and Tracy McGlone
of Baldwinsville; two sons, Peter Gigon of Syracuse and Eric

Viola L. Gorman, 93, of 821 Brighton Avenue, Syracuse,
died Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at Loretto Fahey Nursing Home,
Syracuse, following a brief illness. She owned and operated
a beauty shop in Syracuse from 1937 - 1946. She later worked
for W.T. Grants in Syracuse for 21 years, retiring in 1974.
Viola enjoyed traveling and reading. She had been a member

February 27, 2008. She was born in Queens, NY. Mrs. Gossner
was secretary for the board of education in Ridgewood, NJ;

secretary to artist Margie Hughto for 20 years. Surviving:

Randall G. Hammond, 69, of 2654 Henneberry Rd., Pompey,
passed away at home May 17, 2007. Born in 1937, the son of
George and Margarite Dickinson Hammond. He graduated from
Fabius-Pompey Central school in 1955 and attended Syracuse
University, joined the Army in 1961 until 1963, stationed
in Fort Carson, CO, and retired from P&C Foods in 2000.
Survived by his wife, Betty Brinson Hammond; two daughters,
Laurel Hammond of North Carolina, Jill (James) Thomas; a brother,
Russell, of Pompey; a sister, Nancy Hammond of Pompey; and

Bertha A. Hartquist of 3 Braeside Dr., Homer, died
February 2, 2005 in the Cortland Memorial Hospital at the
age of 96. She was born October 17, 1908 in Fabius, NY, the
daughter of Earl F. and Mildred I. Webster Reynolds. A longtime
resident of Little York, she moved to Homer in 1986. She was
a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of
Homer and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member
and past chairperson of the Little York Community Club. She
was predeceased by her husband, Paul G. Hartquist in 1989;
and a sister, Eloine Sullivan. Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law,
Gary W. and Carol Duby Hartquist of Manlius, NY; seven grandchildren,
Mitchell L. Hartquist, Gary P. Hartquist, Scott L. Hartquist,
John M. Duby, Nancy Duby Wilber, Matthew D. Duby and Mark
J. Duby; as well as, 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces

Delphi Falls United Church where she was a former member of
the Kings Daugh-ters. She was a lifetime member of the Josephine
Rebekah Lodge in Delphi Falls. Surviving are her husband of
63 years, Lewis H. Holmes; her children, Lewis V., Susan L.
Wright, Ada M. Higgins and Leta M. Dineen, all of Delphi Falls;
her twin sister, Leta Sipfle of Murfreesboro, TN; her brother,
George Virgil of Chittenango; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren;

Ruth Luella Hayes Johnson, 81, formerly of Fabius,
NY and Titusville, FL died Thursday, November 16, 2006 surrounded
by her loving family, at her son's home in DeWitt, after a

H. Richard (Dick) June, 69, of Fabius, passed away
January 29, 2008 after a brief illness. Born and raised in
Fabius, he was a loving, caring and devoted husband, father
and grandfather. He was a member of Fabius-Pompey Seniors
and a fire commissioner. He worked at Cortland Chrysler-Dodge
for the past 10 years and previously 30 years at Morrisville
Motors. He is survived by his wife, Cora (Sevier) of 49 years;
a son, Darrell (Chris) June of Fabius; a daughter, Melinda
(Mark) Malvaso of Elbridge; and his grandchildren, Ryan and
Nicole June and Alexis, Antonia, Marissa and Miranda Malvaso;

Marian C. Keeney, 93, lifelong resident of Cuyler,
passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at the Cortland Memorial
Nursing Facility. Marian was the oldest member of the Cuyler
Methodist Church where she had been active in the UMW, choir,
and Sunday school. She was a member of the Cuyler Quilters,
a 75-year member of the Cuyler Grange, and served on the Cuyler
Election Board for 16 years. Surviving are her children, Mary
Jo Chase, Nancy Krager, Margaret Pratt, and Richard (Barbara)
Keeney; eight grandchildren and spouses, Steve and Sandy Chase,
Stuart and Connie Chase, Audra and Jeff Love, Mary Beth and
George Hand; Andrea, Jonathan, Brian and Robert Keeney; five
great-grandchildren, Ashley, Shelby and Lydia Chase, Robert
and Christopher Love; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, John K. Keeney,
in 2000; parents, DeVolson and Cora Snell Cardner; brothers,
Harry, Claude, Ray and Rollo Cardner; sisters, Emma Jones,
Arlie Curtis, Doris Newcomb, Ruth and Jessie Cardner; also

Marilyn A. Kilpatrick, 78, of Mattydale, died on
Friday, May 18, 2007 at Sunnyside Care Center. She was a resident
of Mattydale for 51 years and was the daughter of the late
Leon Rohe and Catherine Corbett. Marilyn was a graduate of
North High and worked at the Salina Free Library for 20 years
as a librarian assistant and also volunteered. She was a longtime
member of the Mattydale Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary
and an avid Yankees fan. Marilyn was a communicant of St.
Margaret's church and a member of its Altar Rosary Society.
She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Donald J.
Kilpatrick, in 1989. Surviving are her three daughters, Peggy

and Donna (Doug) Kress of Houston, TX; two sons, Michael L.

passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005. He was born in Oxford and
retired from Alpha Portland Cement in Jamesville. After retirement
he worked at Toggenburg Ski Center for 11 years. Mr. Kingsley
served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was a member
of the Cuyler United Methodist Church, the Cuyler Historical
Society, the American Legion, and was a Boy Scout leader in

Services for five years. Melanie has been fighting M.S. for
12 years and has been involved in many fundraising activities
for M.S., and recently on March 11 walked at the 9th annual

from Syracuse University data processing. Mrs. Lambert attended
and was very active in the Cuyler United Methodist Church,
as well as many other Cuyler organizations. Surviving: daughter,

brother, Harold Ward Bodman of MA; grandchildren, Penny Delles

Charles "Ivan" Locke, 81, of Fabius, passed
away Thursday, December 29, 2005 in Van Duyn. A life resident
of Fabius, he was a member of Fabius American Legion, Fabius
United Methodist Church, Fabius Senior Citizens, and Fabius
Historical Society. Charles retired from Community General
Hospital in 1979 and was a decorated Army veteran of WWII.
He was the father of the late Susan Barnes. Surviving are

Edward T. Matzel, age 49, of Cleveland, passed away
Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center
following an extended illness. Mr. Matzel was born in Syracuse,
NY to the late Albert and Harriett Case Matzel. He was an
electrician and worked at Home Depot in Dahlonega. Survivors
include his wife, Cindy Rogers Matzel, Cleveland; daughters,
Becky Matzel, Cleveland, Michelle Burke, Cleveland; brothers,
Bill Matzel, Chittenango, NY, Peter Matzel, Perryville, NY;

Loretta May Houser Mawson, 83, of Delphi Falls, passed

Loretta was a life resident of Delphi Falls. She was a member

by her husband, Frederick, in 1968; her grandson, Mark Allen

Jean Marie (Stack) McGraw, 81, of Herndon, VA, formerly
of Mattydale, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at her
home. Born in Syracuse, Jean retired in 1991 from the circulation
department of The Post-Standard where she worked for 25 years.
She was a graduate of Central Tech High School and a member
of St. Margaret's Church. Following the death of her husband
Francis in 1992, Jean enjoyed beach vacations with her family,
gardening, reading and wonderful times with her grandchildren.
In her later years, despite her lengthy illness, she never
lost her sense of humor. Surviving are her children, Michael

Leslie J. Milks, 73, a native of Pompey, NY, died
November 18, 2006 at Bay View Center in Eustis, FL. He was
the son of Mildred and Lester Milks. He was an iron worker
for sometime. He owned LJ's Auto Sales for many years. Leslie
was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Sheftic on January
16, 2002. He is survived by three daughters, Suzanne King

William L. Moore, 86, of Colonie, formerly of Pompey,
died April 19, 2007, at the Inn at Hospice in Albany. Predeceased
by his wife Eileen Monaghan and his wife Katherine Stas, he
is survived by his seven children, William Moore, Ronni McGarty,
Merry Evans, Terry Calvelli, Jane Green, Eileen Moore, Susan
Damm; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. William worked
as a construction engineer and consultant at jobs in Turkey,
Iceland, Alaska, Chicago, Mississippi, New Jersey, Syracuse,
Albany, Washington, D.C. and New York City. A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at the
Church of the Immaculate Conception in Pompey. Burial will

Michael John Neugebauer, 16, of Fabius, died Friday,
June 3, 2005. Born in Syracuse, he was a life resident of
Pompey. A sophomore at Fabius-Pompey, he was active in the
chorus, participating in many of the school's productions.
He was a member of the junior varsity baseball team and the
floor hockey team and was a Boy Scout. Michael was an avid
skier and enjoyed four-wheeling. He loved to go camping with
his friends. Surviving are his parents, Donald and Johanna;
his sister, Luca, and brother, Josh; his maternal grandparents,
Jack and Betty Verhoeven; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Eastern
Hills Bible Church in Manlius. Calling hours will be from

Mary Lou Pulaski
March 14, 2008 Mary Lou Rutherford Pulaski, 64, of Tully,
died Friday after a long illness, surrounded by her loving
family. She was a lifetime resident of the Tully-Fabius area.
After working outside the home for 30 years, she found her
love for children drew her to open a day care center, where
she had up to 21 children. Mary Lou was predeceased by her
brother-in-law, Clint Memory, in 1997; her parents, Kenneth
in 1998 and Ethel in 2004; her sister-in-law, Sherry Rutherford
in 2005; and her youngest brother, Raymond, in 2006. Mary
Lou is survived by her husband of 24 years, James Pulaski;
daughter, Rhonda Mahalick of Tully; two sons, Jeffrey (Lori)
Wheeler of DeRuyter and Joel (Virginia) Wheeler of Erieville;
and six grandchildren, Brittney, Megan, Matthew, Zachary,
Nicholas and Joshua. Mary Lou is also survived by three sisters,
Dawn Memory of Onondaga Hill, Cherry (Russell) Hammond of
Pompey and Bette Jo (John) McDermott of Fabius; two brothers,
Kenneth (Lisa) Rutherford of Miami, FL, and James Rutherford
of Manlius; and sister-in-law, Carol Rutherford of DeRuyter.
A host of nieces and nephews are left behind, each with their
own fond memories of their "Aunt Lou." Services
will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral
Home, Inc., LaFayette, with the Rev. Janet Gleason officiating.

Megan Nichole Pratt, 19, a lifelong resident of Pompey,
passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007. Megan was a graduate
of Fabius-Pompey High School. She was employed as a teller
with Chase Bank in Manlius. Megan was the grand-daughter of
the late Albert T. Pratt and Burton A. Pilcher. Surviving
are her parents, Michael H. and Cynthia P. Pratt; her fiance,
Todd Emmons of Manlius; her sister, Kady M. Pratt; her maternal
grandmother, Mary R. Pilcher of Beulah, Michigan; her paternal
grandmother, Mercena Pratt of Watervale; several aunts, uncles,

Doris H. Randall, 82, formerly of Fabius, passed
away Saturday, April 29, 2006 in Van Duyn. Born in Johnson
City, she moved to Fabius in 1957. Doris retired as a school
aide for Fabius Elementary School and was a member of Fabius
Methodist Church. She was the widow of Floyd Randall. Surviving
are her daughters, Delores Wheeler of Elbridge; Judy Kilmer
of Leesburg, FL; Bonnie Warnow of Cortland; Nancy Moon of
Cincinnatus; and Donna Frazee of Pensacola, FL; her sons,
Edward of Fabius and Walter of Manlius; her sister, Betty
Ward of Whitney Point; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Jeffrey L. Reid, 51, of Severn, MD, died December
4, 2006 at Cortland Memorial Hospital. He is survived by four
sisters, Diane Reid of MD, Cherie (Paul) Colomb of PA, Linda
(Carl) Blaney of Tully, Penny Partridge of Apulia Station;
and one brother, George Reid of MD. Services will be private,

Joan F. Rowley, 72, of Cuyler, passed away Tuesday,
November 23, 2004 at Community General. She is survived by
her husband Vernon; five daughters: Sandra Eaton of Tully,
Linda Partridge of Venice Center, Debra Warren of Owego, Janice
Brustine of North Syracuse and Kelley Knapp of Fabius; three
sons: Vernon Jr. of Cuyler, Larry of Syracuse and Douglas
of Vesper; three brothers: Charles Reeves of Peterboro, Ronald
of West Monroe and Ralph of Florida; 24 grandchildren; and

Lara C. Scanlon, 72, of Pompey, died Wednesday, December
19, 2007 at his home. Mr. Scanlon was a life resident of Pompey.
He was a retired electrician for Niagara Mohawk in Syracuse.
Mr. Scanlon was a member of the Snow Machine Club in Tully
and the Man-lius Car Club. He was predeceased by his brother,
Nelson. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Helen; his brother,
Lloyd of Pompey; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be 2 p.m. January 5, 2008, at Pompey Community Church.

Edith E. Schlicht, 92, of Fabius, passed away Tuesday,
May 2, 2006 at home. She was born in Elmira and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Schlicht was a member of St. Pauls Church in Fabius and
Immaculate Conception Church in Pompey and the Catholic Womens
Club, a member of the Fabius Fire Dept. Auxiliary, Fabius
Historical Society, Fabius Grange, Harmony Circle, and a founder
of the Fabius Pompey Senior Citizens. Surviving: daughter,
Helen Schlicht, and sons, Robert (Shari), Peter and Donald
(Betty) Schlicht, all of Fabius; sister, Florence Schoonover
of Tucson, AZ; brother, Donald Vedder of Hawkins, WI; four
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased
by her husband, Robert Sr., in 1980. Services will be Saturday
at 9 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, DeRuyter, and at 10 a.m.
at St. Pauls Church in Fabius where a Mass of Christian Burial

Leland R. Seamans, 78, of Fabius, passed away Thursday,
February 22, 2007 at his home. He was born in Fabius and was
a dairy farmer. Mr. Seamans drove school bus for Fabius-Pompey
Central School for 33 years. Surviving are his wife, Bernice
of Fabius; daughters, Nancy (Edwin) Bobbette and Jeannie Seamans
of Fabius; sons, Leland Jr. (Rosaleen) and Michael (Diane)
of Cuyler, and Roger and Scott of Fabius; brothers, LeRoy
of SC, Robert of TN, and Carl of Fabius; 10 grandchildren.

Dorothy E. Sipfle, 87, of Fabius, passed away Tuesday,
January 30, 2007 at Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
She was born in Syracuse and was a homemaker. Surviving are
her daughters, Donna Legawiec of Cazenovia, Dorothy (Steve)Barber
of Fabius and Sherry (Jeff) Barber of Manlius; sons, Jack
(Faye) of Fabius, Larry (Diane) of Tully and David of Georgia;
sister, Hazel Sherwood of Syracuse; brother, Dean Bigsby of
Auburn; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

DeRuyter. Burial will be in Valley Cemetery, Syracuse. Calling

Mary Ruth Downing Slyck passed into the arms of her
Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 21, 2007. Born in Fabius,
NY May 13, 1929, she was the oldest child of Milton and Ruth
Colton Downing. She graduated from Fabius Central School in
1947. She then worked for NY Telephone Co. and later Nationwide
Ins. Co., retiring in 1991. On June 2, 1951, she married Laurie
Slyck. They lived on Syracuse's south side then moved to Seneca
Knolls, near Baldwinsville in 1980. She was active at both
St. Anthony's and St. Augustine's Churches. She was a loving
wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a talented artist
and gardener. Mary was predeceased by her parents; two brothers,
John M. and George H. Downing; and her stepmothers, Mary Skinner
Downing and Harriet Peters Jansen Downing Wrotten. She is
survived by her husband, Laurie Douglas Slyck; a daughter,
Geryl Slyck Caruth; son-in-law, Ronald Caruth Jr.; and a grandson,
Ronald "RC" Caruth III. She is also survived by
seven sisters, Elsie Korthes, Clara (Ken) Podger, Georgine
Jansen, Barbara Kimbrough, Leonore (David) Bradley, Carol
(Robert) Cain, and Janice (Larry) Simon; four brothers, Thomas,
Frank (Shirley), James (Lyn) Downing and Robert (Pasty) Jansen;
two sisters-in-law, Patricia Skelton Downing and Gail Scammell

John H. Thorington, 60, of Delhi, died Tuesday, February
6, 2007 at his home as the result of injuries sustained in
a fall from a ladder. John was born October 20, 1946 in Stamford
at the Bathgate Hospital, the son of Chester and Martha (Castle)
Thorington, Sr. He grew up on Mt. Top Farm, Johnson Hollow
Road, Grand Gorge, and graduated from the Grand Gorge Central
School in 1964. In 1968 he graduated from SUNY College of
Forestry at Syracuse with a B.S. in Forest Management. After
gaining work experience with the US Soil Conservation Service
and in private industry, he established Thorington Forestry
Service in Tully in 1978. Retiring in 1998, he moved to Delhi
where he obtained his real estate license and worked for Gerken
Realty, Delhi. Under the name Thorington's Maple Farm he produced
and sold maple syrup, as well as cutting and selling fire
wood. John will be remembered by his hunting companions who
joined him in Alaska, Mongolia, Montana, North Dakota and
NY. His interests ranged from wildlife management to politics;
to fine carpentry and all aspects of construction. Those who
knew him were enriched by his energy, by his willingness to
help others anytime and by his irreverent sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Dale (Morse) Thorington;
his sisters, Myrtle A Thorington, and Joan (Thorington) Oakley;
his brother, Roger Thorington; several aunts, uncles and cousins;
along with many nieces and nephews. He leaves his family with
rich memories and a deep sense of loss. He was predeceased
by his parents, Chet and Martha; a brother, Chester Thorington,
Jr.; and a sister, Virginia (Thorington) Mandato. Funeral
services will take place on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at
11 a.m. at the Grand Gorge United Methodist Church, Grand
Gorge, with the Rev. Dr. Barbara Thorington Green officiating.

Betty J. Tilden, 68, of Fabius, passed away Saturday,
December 1, 2007 at Community General Hospital, Syracuse,
after a courageous battle with cancer. She worked as a custodian
for the Fabius/ Pompey school district for over 25 years.
Survivors in-clude her husband of 50 years, John A.; two daughters,
Linda (Wesley) Rosenberg and Lisa (Ben) Ingersoll; two sons,
John Jr. (Evelyn) Tilden and Charles (Tammy) Tilden; and six

William C. Waffner, 78, beloved husband and father
formerly of New Woodstock, passed away August 15, 2006 at
his home in Groveland, FL. He was born April 28, 1928 in Fabius,
NY, son of the late William and Esther (Harris) Waffner. Bill
was a retired meat cutter/manager for Buyea's, IGA and Smith's
for several years. He was a volunteer fireman for 36 years
for New Woodstock Fire Dept. A permanent resident of New Woodstock
until 2003 before snow-birding to Florida. Surviving are his
wife of 31 years, Winifred Riley Waffner; a son, Fred (Valorie)
Waffner of Virgil; daughters, Mary Kay (Brian) Maglaya of
Phoenix, AZ; Jill (Ed) Rivenburgh of W. Eaton; Deborah Ahlheim
and (John) of Watertown; Annette (Jamie) Head of Plattsburgh;
nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A memorial
service will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2006, at The
Federated Church in New Woodstock at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made to the New Woodstock Fire Department.
Joanne Barbara (Raymond) Watkins, of Pasadena, MD,
passed away on Friday, April 27, 2007, following a six-month
battle with cancer. Mrs. Watkins was born October 10, 1940,
in Syracuse, the daughter of Dalton J. and Doris (Carberry)
Raymond. She attended West Genesee High School and was a member
of Holy Family Catholic Church in Fairmount. She met her husband,
Robert "Bob" Watkins, of Minden, Louisiana, in 1960
while she was a hostess with the Syracuse USO and he was stationed
in Syracuse with the Air Force. They were married in Baltimore,
MD, on March 11, 1962, at the Basilica of the Assumption of
the Blessed Virgin Mary. They resided in Maryland continuously
since 1963, where she raised two sons. Mrs. Watkins enjoyed
collecting decorated tins and shopping for her family. She
was an astute bargain hunter. She also enjoyed sightseeing,
and she and her husband traveled as often as possible. Additionally,
she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren. She is survived
by her husband; son, Robert "Bob" and his wife Tabitha
of Pasadena, MD; son Steven "Rusty" and his wife
Amy of Arnold, MD; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Dalton
and Pete Raymond of Syracuse; three sisters, Nancy Lambert
of Fabius, NY, Linda Lumis of West Haven, CT, and Mary Pepin
of Syracuse; and several nieces and nephews. Viewing will
be held at Barranco Funeral Home in Severna Park, MD, on Tuesday
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held
there on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Veterans

Ronald T. Wheeler, 65, of LaFayette, went peacefully
to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 13, 2007, after a courageous
battle with cancer. He spent his last days surrounded by his
family and friends at Upstate University Medical Center. Ron
was born in Fayetteville and raised in Pompey, NY. He graduated
from Fabius Central School. He worked his way through high
school by setting pins at Fabius Bowling Alley. He held various
positions during his 31-year tenure with New Venture Gear
and retired from his position as a prototype layout inspector
in 1994. Ron was an active member of Local Union 2149. He
spent his retirement enjoying time with family, camping, enjoying
the outdoors and woodworking. He is survived by a daughter,
Rhonda (Dave) Mahalick of Tully; sons, Jeff (Lori) Wheeler
of DeRuyter and Joel (Virginia) Wheeler of Cicero; two sisters,
Iva Freunscht and Bernice Seamans; three brothers, Tom, Phil
and Doug Wheeler; six grandchildren, Brittney, Megan, Matthew,
Zachary, Nicholas and Joshua; also many nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by his father, Paul Wheeler; mother, Lottie
Wheeler Murdent; and a brother, Paul Wheeler Jr. Services:

Hazel S. Wightman, 93, of Cazenovia, passed away
Monday, November 27, 2006 at her home. She was born in DeRuyter
and had resided there most of her life. Mrs. Wightman was
a homemaker, a member of the Federated Church of New Woodstock
and a member and past matron of DeRuyter Chapter 416 O.E.S.
Surviving: daughters, Margy (Wayne) Hilts of Cazenovia, Joyce
Upham of Houston, TX; daughter-in-law, Ann Wightman of Syracuse;
sons, Dale (Barbara) of Cortland, Carl (Becky) of DeRuyter,
Lynn (Sharon) of New Woodstock, Paul (Linda) of Sanford, NC;
16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased
by her husband, Howard, in 1997; her son, Harold, in 1986;
and grandson,Mark, in 2005. Services will be Thursday at 11

Judy Wilson
March 16, 2008 Judy Wilson, 60, of Tully, passed away Sunday,
March 16, at Cortland Regional Medical Center. She was a graduate
of St. Joseph's School of Nursing and worked at Cortland Memorial,
the VA and TLS as a registered nurse. She enjoyed playing
cards, knitting, gardening and raising her two grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Dale Wilson; one
daughter, Mary Ellen Wilson; one son, Jeffrey A. (Wendy) Wilson;
two stepdaughters, Shelley (Ken) Paige and Pennie (Fred) Solverson;
one stepson, Tracey Wilson; one sister, Gina Yager; two brothers,
John (Debra) Foster and James (Cheryl) Foster; her mother,
Doris Foster; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Beverly J. Zirbel, 79, of 1648 Oran Delphi Rd., New
Woodstock, passed away Wednesday, June 21, 2006 from a brief
illness at home in the loving arms of her husband. Beverly
was born on March 27, 1927 to Bernal and Lena Ingersoll in
Fabius, NY. She re-tired in 1989 from Fabius Elementary School.
Beverly was happiest when her children and grandchildren were
around, and her door was always open to her many nieces and
nephews. She was known as mother, mom, grandma, nana, Aunt
Buddy, and Ninny. Beverly is survived by her husband of 58
years, James Zirbel; three daughters, Debi (Carl) Farewell,
Pat Barrows, and Kim (John) Messbauer; six grandsons, Bryan
and Brandon Barrows, A.J. Reynolds, and Brett, Matt and Nicholas
Farewell; two sisters, Betty Buccina and Claudia Browngardt;
two brothers, Claude and Ben Ingersoll; and many nieces, nephews,
